Far in the Future

Far in the future, when I meet my grandfather again,

I will tell him,

“I never forgot you.”

If he quietly asks how I could have remembered for so long,

I will answer,

“Because I missed you more than words could ever say.”

And if he still questions me,

I will say,

“Your death never felt real to me,
so I could never let you go.”

Not today, not yesterday—

there has never been a day

when I truly forgot you.

Far in the future,

I wonder,

“Will I be able to see your face once more?”

With a heart full of longing and regret,

I wait for that distant day,

promising,

“I will never forget your love.”
